ORIGINAL - BAVARIAN TRAVELER HAND PAINTED PORCELAIN PLATE by OSCAR SCHLEGELMILCH LANGEWEISSEN THURINGIA-GERMANY LATE 19th CENTURY
Neoclassical pattern surrounds a scene of a Bavarian Traveler meeting a beautiful Fraulein while taking a rest by the side of a path. Mounted in its original carved wood frame with eagle finial and a later gold paint.
Hand painted on the plates base in German along with the makers mark:

Fine condition throughout with a tiny chip / crack at the base not affecting any other areas and a light surface hairline scratch across the front on the travelers jacket. A hairline crack runs from the outer edge of the design on the front left at about 9 o'clock and runs in towards the center to the gold rectangle then out again to the edge not affecting the main hand painted scene. Some gold paint on the the plate at the outer edge from an earlier repainting of the frame. Original heavy linen cloth with some holes from handling on the reverse partially removed at the center to reveal the light blue makers mark of O.S.Langewessen and the hand painted title.
